Lake Eyasi

Tanzania’s Untouched Jewel of Serenity

Overview

Lake Eyasi is a saltwater lake located in the Eyasi Basin at the base of the Great Rift Valley. The lake spans approximately 1,050 square kilometres but fluctuates in size due to seasonal rains. The surrounding area is a mix of savannah, bushland, and rocky hills, offering diverse landscapes and ecosystems.

Lake Eyasi is home to a wide range of wildlife, including hippos, birds, and antelopes, although the region is less populated with larger game compared to other Tanzanian parks. Lake Eyasi is perfect for those looking to experience a more off-the-beaten-path safari while discovering Tanzania’s natural beauty and ancient traditions.

Best Time To Visit

The Best Time to visit Lake Eyasi is during the dry season, from June to October, when the weather is sunny, and wildlife congregates around the remaining water sources. This period offers the clearest views of the area’s natural beauty, and the weather is ideal for exploring the lake and surrounding landscapes. For those interested in seeing the lush vegetation and birdlife, the wet season (November to May) offers rich biodiversity, though some areas may become more difficult to access due to mud roads and rains. It’s also during this time that migratory birds arrive at the lake.
