Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Moshi for a pre-climb briefing with your guides. This is where the adventure begins, with a final gear check and preparations for your Kilimanjaro ascent.
Day 2: Moshi to Mandara Hut (2,700m)
After breakfast, you will be driven to the Marangu Gate (1,860m), where your trek begins. Hike through lush rainforest, enjoying the sights of tropical flora and fauna. The path is well-maintained and scenic, leading to Mandara Hut, where you’ll spend your first night on the mountain.
Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720m)
Depart from Mandara Hut and continue through the forest until you reach the heath and moorland zone. Enjoy panoramic views as you trek toward Horombo Hut. This day offers a gradual ascent with the chance to spot unique flora like giant lobelias. You’ll arrive at Horombo Hut in the late afternoon, with time to rest and acclimatize.
Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut
To improve your chances of reaching the summit, an extra day is spent at Horombo for acclimatization. You can opt for a short hike towards Mawenzi Peak or relax and enjoy the scenery around the hut, preparing your body for the higher altitudes ahead.
Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,700m)
Today’s trek takes you across the Saddle, a barren but stunning area located between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. As the vegetation becomes sparser, you will feel the altitude, but the gradual incline makes it manageable. You will reach Kibo Hut in the early evening, where you will rest before the final summit attempt.
Day 6: Kibo Hut to Summit (5,895m) and Back to Horombo Hut
Your summit attempt begins around midnight. Trek slowly up the steep path to Gilman’s Point (5,681m) and continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After capturing breathtaking sunrise views, descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest before continuing down to Horombo Hut for your final night on the mountain.
Day 7: Horombo Hut to Moshi
On your last day, you will descend through the heath and forest zones back to the Marangu Gate. After receiving your summit certificate, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in Moshi to celebrate your achievement.
